The problem

Re-edit per platform.

Edit a video for YouTube. Resize for Reels. Re-crop for TikTok. Square for LinkedIn. Each platform pulls the edit in a different direction.

Most tools make you re-edit per platform. Sapari exports each ratio from a single timeline.

What drifts when you resize
Captions

9:16 needs larger text and fewer words; 16:9 fits more per line. Margins differ to clear platform UI.

Subject framing

A talking head centered in 16:9 won't be centered in 9:16 unless you reframe.

Overlays

Corner placements on 16:9 land outside the safe zone on 9:16.

12% · clears platform UI

Caption defaults apply when you switch aspect ratios — fully overridable. Vertical margin is automatic and scales with the output height so 9:16 always clears TikTok and IG UI.

Vertical to landscape · landscape to vertical

Two ways to convert.

When the export aspect doesn't match your source — 16:9 going to 9:16, or 9:16 going to 16:9 — Sapari gives you two ways to fit the frame.

Default · keeps the full frame
16:9
16:9

Letterbox

Source is scaled to fit and padded with bars. Bar color is yours — black, white, or any hex. Nothing in the original gets cut.

Use when the action fills the whole frame and cropping would lose context.

Reframe by picking the slice
16:9
9:16

Crop with zoom + pan

Pick which part of the source fills the new aspect. Zoom in or out, drag the crop window left/right or up/down. No subject is auto-detected — you decide what's centered.

Use when a person or subject sits off-center and you want them in frame.

Same applies in the other direction — 9:16 source going to 16:9 output letterboxes (pillar bars on the sides) or crops a horizontal slice of the vertical frame.

Before you ask

Common questions.

Can I export a vertical-only video? +

Yes. Pick 9:16 only — there's no requirement to export all three.

Do captions actually change per format? +

Smart defaults change when you switch aspect — 9:16 starts at 72px with shorter lines, 16:9 at 40px with longer lines. Vertical margin auto-scales (5% on 16:9, 12% on 9:16) to clear platform UI. All overridable.

Letterbox or crop — which should I pick? +

Letterbox keeps everything in frame, with bars in your chosen color. Crop with zoom + pan reframes by picking which slice of the source fills the new aspect. Use letterbox when the action fills the frame; crop when a subject sits off-center and you want them in frame.

Custom or ultra-wide aspect ratios? +

The three standard ratios cover ~99% of social publishing. Custom aspects are on the roadmap.

Does export cost credits? +

No. Exports are free. Analysis (the AI pass) costs credits, not export.

Can I re-export after editing? +

Yes. Every export is a snapshot of the current timeline, so you can edit, re-export, and repeat as often as you need.
